Nationally, over the last three decades design-build has been adopted by states all around the country. All but two states, Iowa and North Dakota, now permit its use. Ramtech has been at the forefront of using the design-build project delivery method since it was first authorized for public projects by the Texas Legislature in 1995. Design-build has played an integral part in our growth, by allowing us to be a single-source solution in designing and constructing permanent modular construction projects for educational institutions and government agencies across the state.
The design-build procurement process allows projects to be developed and constructed faster and with less costs than projects using variations of the construction manager or design-bid-build type approaches. And, before the project delivery method is even selected by the public agency, Ramtech can be of assistance with our No Cost Project Planning and Budgeting service to provide:
- Preliminary building floor plans and site plans
- Outline construction specifications
- A project feasibility study and cost estimate with additional options for site improvements and upgrades to interior and exterior finishes.
Our design-build approach, using either of our permanent modular construction methods, allows us to concurrently perform the site preparation and modular manufacturing activities, reducing the construction time by 30 to 50%. This minimizes the possibility of on-site injuries and weather-related materials damage while greatly reducing the amount of site disruptions. It also saves money by more effectively controlling the cost of labor, reducing overhead expenses, utilizing direct purchasing of materials, and minimizing the owner requested change orders since the designer and constructor are one in the same.
