After assisting the Hubbard Independent School District in lowering their original $12 million construction budget by 33% to $8 million, Ramtech provided a multi-facility project consisting of three buildings using the Accelerated Building System permanent modular construction approach. Included is a 9,856 square foot high school with six classrooms, a computer language lab, family and consumer science lab, two non-acid science labs, and a data room. The 13,440 square foot junior/senior central use wing provides three separate administration areas, a boardroom, full library, computer, business and chemistry labs, a large instructional use room, and a data room. The third building is a 6,272 square foot junior high school wing which contains four standard classrooms, two science labs, a life skills room with attached storage area, and its own data room. All of the buildings have a split-face block masonry exterior designed to match the existing school architecture. Hubbard Superintendent Randy O’Brien graciously went on camera to discuss the modular building project, and provided his insight on what it was like to work with Ramtech.
Ramtech will be back at the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals’ annual conference and trade show coming up on April 17-19 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. With this year’s theme being “Executing a Winning Strategy” TORCH expects a large turnout to discuss all the potential changes in policy or laws affecting reimbursement, regulation, quality and health care delivery. Organized as a charter school, Life School serves over 4,000 students at five locations around the Dallas, Texas area. When the school decided to expand their Oak Cliff area secondary school, they chose three 7,424 square foot eight-classroom modular buildings complete with connecting deck and ramp assemblies. Purchased through the Texas Buyboard and built using traditional modular contruction, each facility includes a private office, restrooms, storage area, and individual classrooms with a computer lab in the high school building. The buildings utilize nine wall-mounted HVAC units zoned for energy efficient heating and cooling, and include factory installed 26-gauge R-panel metal siding on the exterior, vinyl composition gypsum wall coverings, and durable high traffic carpet flooring. We went back out to visit the Oak Cliff campus and caught up with Shawn Thomas, Director of Operations for the Life School. Here’s what he had to say:
While permanent modular construction (PMC) has become a leading building system used in the development of commercial and institutional facilities, there isn’t a single approach, or one modular company, that has come to dominate the commercial modular industry. Just as modular construction in the United Kingdom is practiced differently than it is in India, permanent modular construction in the United States also varies widely from one region of the country to another – and from one market or product line to another. Ramtech has continued to build on its success in the public school sector by securing a new $1.9 million contract to provide four new modular cafeteria buildings to the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas. Totaling 41,216 square feet, two modular buildings will be installed at both Nimitz and MacArthur High Schools for use as interim facilities while the renovation of the existing cafeterias takes place. Ramtech will begin the manufacturing phase of the modular construction project prior to the end of February, and will commence the site activities at the beginning of March. We expect to complete the project by April 12th, which will give Aldine ISD ample time to prepare the facilities to begin food service to their students by May 1st. (more…)
