Located on the Louisiana Gulf Coast, the 25-bed South Cameron Memorial Hospital was destroyed by the storm surge during Hurricane Rita. With no other healthcare facility within 80 miles, an expedited replacement was needed to serve the region’s oil and gas and commercial fishing industry residents. Aided by a campaign started by former presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton, federal disaster funds were secured to build a facility using modular construction that would meet FEMA’s 130 mph wind and tidal surge requirements. As a strategic subcontractor, Ramtech provided structural design, manufacturing, and construction services for a 26,128 sq’ acute-care hospital installed on a driven pile foundation with reinforced concrete piers six feet above the existing grade.
